New Merchant of Venice fic
I wrote some fic for your enjoyment (I do love Merchant of Venice). That being said, this here isn't quite traditional slash; the pairing is by no means the only focus.
Summary: Shylock knows himself only as angry and bitter, so it shocks him when he performs an impulsive act of mercy. Antonio knows he can rely on his friends, so it shocks him when he has to rely on his enemy instead. Post-play.
The title is "Usurer's Mercy," and there are eight chapters in all. Here are the first two: Current Mood: thoughtful

Erm... yeah. I was starting to feel guilty about promising fics and not producing, so to tide you over, I'm posting this one, which admittedly follows my usual line of Portia being angsty about Antonio and Bassanio's relationship. I promise the others are coming soon.
I actually wrote it a while back, but not really satisfied with the ending and, hrmmm... as I say, following my usual line of stuff. I will have more up soon. Christmas holidays coming up :) Excellent opportunity to write. But for now I give you

Kickstart the comm!
Okay, so this comm REALLY needs more content :)
Therefore, I have a suggestion. Everyone request a Merchant of Venice fic you would like to see written, and anybody who wants to can pick up the requests and write them. I promise to write at least two. They may not be long ones, but I WILL write them!
Any pairings may be requested... Antonio/Bassanio is my personal fave, but whatever. Can also be Salerio/Solanio, Portia/Nerissa, Gratiano/Lorenzo, Gratiano/Bassanio, Launcelot/Lorenzo, Antonio/Shylock, Launcelot/Shylock, or anything else you can come up with :)
Soooooo... start requesting!

Antonio Character Study
Sooooo... to kick things off to a start in this community, I'm working on a character study of Antonio. He's my favourite character in the Merchant of Venice, despite comments I continually hear from others that he's bland and uninteresting. Well, I like him, and he also happens to be one of the most slashable characters in the Merchant :)
I've only got a leetle bit of it done so far, but I'll post that now. It just concerns the basic facts that we get from the play about Antonio. I will go on to wonder about his mysterious sadness, and his relationship with Bassanio, all heavily supported with many quotes, because this is something my English teacher has drilled into me. If anyone has any suggestions regarding this character study, I'd be DELIGHTED to hear them. :) After all, what's a writer without a critic.
(On a side note, if I get a chance I may put together of the production of the Merchant of Venice currently running in the Globe, which I thought was excellent, if a little unusual, and certainly contained plenty of Antonio/Bassanio material)
Anyway on with the character study!

Rules of the comm
The rules of the comm are fairly basic, but I should probably mention them anyway.
1,Basic courtesy. No name-calling or derogatory remarks based on race, religion etc. Civilised debate on a topic is fine, but please keep it civil.
2. As I've mentioned, all fanart, fanfiction etc. of any rating relating to the Merchant of Venice is accepted, but please DO mark the rating, and put text and art behind cuts.
3. Spamming will not be tolerated and may result in the spammer being banned from the community. I don't mind if conversations wander off to random topics, as long as they vaguely have something to do with the Merchant of Venice, but do not use this community purely for advertising your myspace pages etc.
4. I don't mind cursing, as long as it isn't used to insult members directly.
5. If critiquing someone else's work, try and be constructive. Comments like 'UR STORY SUX' doesn't help anyone and frequent offences in this direction may result in members being banned.
6. Please do try to use good spelling and grammar. Of course there will be occasional typos and everyone understands that, but when you're typing to try and take the time to say what you're saying properly. Text slang and everpresent capslock gets highly annoying.
I hope not to have to enforce these rules too much. I'd like to operate this comm under a 'trust' system, where everyone treats everyone else the way they would like to be treated. We'll all be nice to each other, 'kay? It's just so much easier that way.
Well, here's the first post on Merchant of Venice Slash.
This comm will be devoted to slash fanfiction concerning any characters of the Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare. My personal preference is Antonio/Bassanio, but any other pairings are also welcome :)
Crossovers are permitted, but they do have to involve at least one Merchant character.
Please post all fics behind a cut, and post the rating clearly. This comm is not age-restricted, so please do ensure that you always post the rating. American ratings are probably the easiest to use, i.e.
Alternatively, just post an age that you think suitable for readers of your fic. i.e.
Rating: This fic is suitable for persons over 15
Warnings for particular elements of fics would also be appreciated, i.e.
Warning: m-preg, BDSM, PWP etc.
Thanks a lot and feel free to message me, or post here if you have any queries regarding the comm.
(I may as well mention I have no experience running one of these things, so I may require help!)
